Perry to star in Clueless musical

Katy Perry is reportedly interested in starring in the Clueless musical

Katy Perry could be channelling her inner 16-year-old to take on the lead role of Cher Horowitz in a Clueless musical.

The Teenage Dream singer has approached Amy Heckerling, the original movie's director, asking to play the queen bee in the Broadway adaptation of the 90s cult classic. Alicia Silverstone played the character in the 1995 film.

"Katy Perry has expressed interest, and I love her to death," the filmmaker told Vulture.

But Katy isn't the only one chasing the lead role as Australian rapper Iggy Azalea has also wowed Amy with her musical re-enactment of Clueless, in the video for her hit single Fancy.

"It looked like they had more money for the video than I had for the movie," the director said.

"But I was extremely flattered and I thought she was amazing. And whoever did the costumes, I don't know how they did that. Maybe Iggy wants to do it!"

Amy revealed that the Broadway musical is in "really, really, early, early stages", although she already has a book and song lyrics at the ready.
