Pfeiffer: The Family not Scarface

Michelle Pfeiffer has said her new film is nothing like her previous mobster movie Scarface.

The actress, 55, plays the wife of Robert De Niro's mobster character in The Family, which also stars Glee actress Dianna Agron as their daughter.

Michelle and Al Pacino played husband and wife in 1983 crime film Scarface.

But she said: "You can't compare The Family and Scarface, it's like apples and oranges...

"I never considered Tony Montana [Pacino's Scarface character] a Mafiosa. I considered him a drug lord.

"In terms of my relationship with Bob in The Family, he's my husband. I don't really relate to him as a mobster, he's just someone who won't listen to what I say and misbehaves."

Although they both appeared in Stardust and romcom New Year's Eve, Michelle had never shared a scene with her co-star until The Family.

"Robert De Niro is a classic example of someone who's iconic, and who effortlessly puts actors at ease the moment he meets them," the actress said.

"I think that's just something he innately does with people... There are maybe five actors that have godlike status for me, and Robert De Niro is one of them."

:: The Family is in cinemas now.
