Piers Morgan a sentient ham, says Bake Off finalist Ruby Tandoh

She said she would “rather die” than appear next to Morgan.

Great British Bake Off finalist Ruby Tandoh has said she would “rather die” than appear next to Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain.

The columnist and author called Piers a “sentient ham” while turning down the opportunity to appear on ITV’s breakfast show.

A journalist working for the programme had tweeted the proposition to Ruby, who appeared on Bake Off in 2013.

She replied: “I know it’s just your job so no hard feelings, but Piers Morgan is a sentient ham and frankly I’d rather die.”

Former newspaper editor Piers retaliated by mocking Ruby, tweeting: “I’m devastated. Who is she?

“Always hard when you’re snubbed by people who lost a cake-making show.”

The spat came after viewers called for stand-in host Eamonn Holmes to permanently replace Piers on Good Morning Britain.

Eamonn, who hosted GMTV for 12 years, was covering while Piers and Susanna Reid take a break over Easter.

On Twitter, one viewer said: “You know Eamonn Holmes is a saviour of breakfast TV when he’s a stand in for Piers Morgan and people want him to stay permanently #GMB.”

Another wrote: “@EamonnHolmes @GMB please make Eamonn permanent. So much more pleasing on the eyes and ears than Piers Morgan!”
