Brad Pitt could be set to star in a sequel to his zombie film World War Z.

The star's latest big screen outing has taken the box office by storm - opening this weekend with a worldwide haul of 111.8 million dollars - and Paramount has told The Hollywood Reporter that it will be making a follow-up.

World War Z - based on a book by Max Brooks and about a race to defeat a zombie pandemic sweeping the globe - was initially envisioned as a trilogy, although those plans were later shelved.

However, now that it has performed so well it's thought it might yet become a franchise.

Brad was recently asked about a possible sequel and said: "We gotta see if this one works first. But there's tons of information to mine from the book, certainly."

And his co-star, The Killing's Mireille Enos, told E! News that she had signed up for two more World War Z films.
