Poldark viewers ‘bereft’ as third series wraps up

Demelza cheated on Ross in the third series finale.

Poldark fans have said they are “bereft” and counting down to the new series as the show’s third run came to an end with Ross and Demelza’s marriage hanging in the balance.

Things went awry when Hugh Armitage (Josh Whitehouse) finally won over Demelza following many attempts to woo her.

As they walked in the dunes he told Demelza (Eleanor Tomlinson) he was desperate to be with her before he lost his sight, and they finally locked lips in a passionate embrace.

Viewers of the BBC drama were divided, with some thrilled that Demelza was putting herself first.

“Can’t be the only one cheering Demelza on! Ross is a awful husband,” one wrote on Twitter.

“YES yes yes #Demelza, a roll in the hay with Armitage is a fine thing for a Sunday. My, he’s a pretty one,” said another.

However, others were upset that she would risk her relationship with heartthrob Ross (Aidan Turner).

One fan tweeted: “I can’t cope with what Demelza has done and I can’t cope with it being the last episode.”

“Oh Demelza, how could you? Poor Ross #Poldark! I need another series. I want all the characters back on my screen soon!” said another.

The episode ended with Demelza back in Ross’s arms.

But he seemed to guess that she had been unfaithful and the series ended with both looking tense and uncertain.

“Nooooo! How can #Poldark finish like that?! This has been the best series by miles. Can’t bear to wait another year for the next series…” said one fan.

Another joked: “Think I need to wedge myself between Demelza and Ross in the bed there to comfort me until the start of series 4.”

One said: “I am now bereft!!!! #Poldark has finished!!! Simply can’t wait until next year!!! It is just THE best thing on TV!!!”

Many viewers said it would be hard to wait until 2018 to see what happens next.

One quipped: “Back next year”….it’s early August…we need to get our diaries together #poldark because next year isn’t going to work for me.”
