Queen's former butler on child rape charge

A former royal butler to the Queen went on trial today accused of nine counts of rape.



Paul Kidd, 55, of Stalybridge, Greater Manchester, is charged with 30 historic child abuse offences involving three boys - nine counts of rape, four of gross indecency, 14 of indecent assault and three of sexual assault.



Kidd worked as a butler from 1977 to 1979 and was senior footman to the Queen mother from 1979 to 1984.
