Redford would Rather have Truth
Robert Redford is to play American news anchor Dan Rather in political drama Truth.
Cate Blanchett will co-star as journalist and producer Mary Mapes in the film based on the true story of Rathergate, the scandal the pair became embroiled in in 2004.
Rather became embroiled in the scandal when he reported in a 60 Minutes special for CBS that George W Bush had received preferential treatment by not being sent to serve in the Vietnam War. But the memos the report was based on were alleged to be fakes and the story was eventually retracted after 12 days.
Rather managed to survive the scandal and stayed on at CBS for another two years, but Mapes was sacked. She continued to deny any wrong-doing.
James Vanderbilt, who wrote The Amazing Spider-Man, will make his directorial debut on the film.
He is adapting the screenplay from Mapes' 2005 memoir Truth And Duty: The Press, The President, And The Privilege Of Power.
