Ribisi joins The Gangster Squad

Giovanni Ribisi has joined the cast of period crime drama The Gangster Squad

Giovanni Ribisi has landed a co-starring role in The Gangster Squad, it has been reported.

The 36-year-old is set to appear in the period crime drama alongside Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling and Josh Brolin, said Deadline.

Sean is playing Mickey Cohen, while Ryan and Josh are members of the elite cop squad that are after him in 1949 Los Angeles. Giovanni would be cast as Conway Keeler, a cop in the group who's a master of electronics and wires.

The US actor - best known for being Phoebe's kooky brother Frank Jr in Friends - is currently filming Seth McFarlane's comedy Ted with Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis. He next appears in The Rum Diary opposite Johnny Depp.
