Ridley 'to direct Damon in Martian'

Ridley Scott is in talks to direct The Martian

Ridley Scott is in talks to direct Matt Damon in The Martian.

Matt is attached to star as an astronaut who has to figure out how to survive on Mars and return to Earth after he gets stranded on the red planet.

Ridley is now eyeing the sci-fi thriller for his next project, Variety reported. It would be the first time he has directed Matt.

Drew Goddard recently pulled out of directing the movie, reportedly due to his involvement in the Sinister Six spin-off film and Netflix's Daredevil series.

Ridley is currently in post-production on his Moses film Gods And Kings.

Based on Andy Weir's e-book, The Martian is described as a cross between Apollo 13 and Cast Away.

Matt has been drawn to science fiction roles recently, following his starring turns in Elysium, Terry Gilliam's The Zero Theorem and Christopher Nolan's upcoming Interstellar.
