Roberts: Streep such a trouper

Julia Roberts has admitted she felt awful about "beating up" Meryl Streep in their new movie.

The Oscar-winner plays the daughter of Meryl's pill-popping family matriarch in August: Osage County and one scene called for her to rough up her co-star and push her over.

And according to reports, Julia revealed to Hello! magazine she was riddled with guilt after their screen scuffle.

"I was so worried about hurting her and she was such an incredible trouper. We did the scene for an entire day. We were both bruised up and battered and I was like, 'Look at this! Oh my God, I'm just beating up Meryl Streep!'," said the 46-year-old.

Julia said Meryl, 64, didn't flinch despite apparently being left a little sore after the scene.

"She was secretly icing a swelling wrist like nothing happened but never said a word about it," said the actress. "She's asking me, 'What's happening to you?' She's more concerned about others and she has a lot more endurance than I do.

"I love her."

August: Osage County also stars Ewan McGregor, Abigail Breslin, Juliette Lewis and Dermot Mulroney. It opens in the UK in January.
