The musical based on Sylvester Stallone's Rocky is closing

The Broadway version of Sylvester Stallone's Rocky is hanging up its gloves after being battered at the box office.

The stage adaptation of the Oscar-winning 1976 boxing film will close on August 17.

It is coming to an end less than six months after its glittering opening night - which was attended by stars including Sylvester himself - after playing 28 previews and 188 regular performances.

The musical stayed close to the movie and charted the rise and romance of amateur boxer and debt collector Rocky Balboa.

But it failed to take off after poor to mixed reviews and b roke the one million dollar (£583.6 thousand) mark only once. Recently it was taking only half its potential earnings.

The show, which saw Andy Karl taking on Sly's famous part, earned four Tony Award nominations but took home only a scenic design award.

Your Horoscopes by Russell Grant

Capricorn:

Your dry humour will be very popular. It's always difficult bringing a large group of people together. Everybody feels like they are walking on eggshells. After cracking a few jokes, you'll put the group at ease. Resist the temptation to make fun of relatives, especially the more sensitive members of the group. Nobody likes feeling singled out. Watching a light hearted comedy can also be a great way to generate a festive atmosphere. This is a time when people can put their differences aside.More
