Ryder set to star in Beetlejuice 2?

Winona Ryder has fuelled rumours the long awaited Beetlejuice sequel is going ahead.

For months there have been reports that Tim Burton might make a follow-up to the 1988 movie and now Winona, who starred as teen Lydia Deetz in the original, has hinted that plans are gathering force.

She told The Daily Beast: "I'm kind of sworn to secrecy. But it sounds like it might be happening."

The actress said the next instalment isn't a reboot, but a new story set nearly three decades after the first film.

She said: "It's not a remake. It's 27 years later. And I have to say, I love Lydia so much. She was such a huge part of me. I would be really interested in what she is doing 27 years later."

However, Winona suggested she wouldn't want to sign up if original director Tim and the film's star Michael Keaton weren't on board.

"I would never go near [a sequel] if it was not Tim and Michael," said the 42-year-old. "Because those guys, I love."

Last month it was reported that Tim was mulling over whether to make a sequel to the horror comedy.

And Michael has previously expressed an interest in reprising his charismatic freelance "bio-exorcist" ghost role.
