Sarsgaard: People think I'm odd
Peter Sarsgaard has insisted he had no concerns taking on such an unpleasant role in Lovelace, as he already has a reputation for the bizarre.
The Jarhead actor plays Linda Lovelace's (Amanda Seyfried) abusive husband Chuck who encourages her into the porn industry.
Peter said: "People have such a bizarre perception of me that I don't really worry about it. For better for worse, I guess I've never really worried about it at all in my career.
"I think people have asked me a lot why I'm drawn to playing bad guys or creepy people or something like that, but I just am a curious person."
He added: "I had a lot of hesitation about doing the film, but just thought I would be able to create a character there. I approach everything somewhat selfishly and I look at the character I'm being offered and I think, not so much can I relate, but is there room to make one?"
Peter explained the biggest challenge is relating to his co-stars, but that wasn't a worry on Lovelace.
He said: "What's mostly difficult about it is the intimacy that sex and violence requires with your other actors and I can't say enough good things about Amanda Seyfried."
Lovelace is released in cinemas on August 23.
