Scott: Blade Runner 2 is 'relevant'

Sir Ridley Scott has revealed that the Blade Runner sequel will be "relevant" to today's times.

The Gladiator filmmaker, who has said he won't be directing the sci-fi follow-up, has been working on the script with the original film's co-screenwriter, Hampton Fancher. He will also take on producing duties.

"(Fans can expect) a very good, relevant evolution on the first one," he said.

"I hadn't planned that, but I worked quite a long time with Hampton Fancher, the original writer, to come out with what would be relevant, rather than just a sequel with a lot of action.

"And I think we've come up with a very relevant story. It's really interesting," the Exodus: Gods And Kings director added.

Harrison Ford will reprise his role as retired police officer Rick Deckard in Blade Runner 2, which follows on from the original 1982 movie.
