Sean Hayes set to play a Stooge?

Sean Hayes is reportedly set to play one of the Three Stooges

Sean Hayes is set to play one of the Three Stooges in an upcoming film, it has been reported.

The Will & Grace actor has been cast as Larry and will join Will Sasso, who is to play Curly, in the big-screen adaptation of the hit TV comedy.

The part of Moe as the final member of the comic slapstick act has not been decided, said The Hollywood Reporter.

The movie, to be directed by the Farrelly brothers, is not a biopic but will be divided into half-hour vignettes set in the present day.

Sean Penn had originally been tipped for Larry, with Jim Carrey as Curly and Benicio Del Toro as Moe.

The Three Stooges marks a rare screen appearance for Sean, best known for his Will & Grace alter-ego Jack McFarland.

Since the award-winning sitcom ended its run in 2006, the 40-year-old made his Broadway debut last year in Promises, Promises, acted in The Bucket List and hosted the 2010 Tony Awards.
