See Gary Oldman as Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour trailer
The film follows one of the most turbulent periods in modern British history.
The first trailer for Darkest Hour has been released, giving a sneak peek at Gary Oldman as Winston Churchill.
Oldman will play one of Britain’s most celebrated prime ministers in the film which follows Churchill taking office and his baptism of fire as he faced the choice between negotiating a peace treaty with Nazi Germany, or fighting for his ideals.
Churchill struggled against being an unpopular choice for the job, a lack of support from his party, and convincing the public to follow him into a terrifying war with unknown consequences.
The clip shows an almost-unrecognisable Oldman – who has bulked up and perfected Churchill’s characteristic style of speech.
It includes part of his famous “we shall fight on the beaches” speech to Parliament.
Darkest Hour also stars Kristen Scott Thomas as Churchill’s wife Clementine, as well as Ben Mendelsohn as King George VI, Ronald Pickup as Neville Chamberlain, and Downton Abbey’s Lily James.
Pride And Prejudice helmer Joe Wright has directed the film, which is due in cinemas on January 12.
