Sewell to battle Lincoln as Vampire

Rufus Sewell has signed up to star in a new vampire movie

Rufus Sewell has joined the cast of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter as the lead villain.

The Pillars of the Earth star is to play bloodsucking creature of the night Adam in 20th Century Fox's adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith's best-selling novel, Variety reports.

Flags of Our Fathers' Benjamin Walker stars as the 16th century president of the United States in the period horror movie which sees Lincoln swear revenge on vampires after they kill his mother, and follows his battle against the undead - which is claimed in the book to be the real reason for the American Civil War.

Dominic Cooper co-stars as friendly vampire Henry Sturgess, who teaches Lincoln the art of slaying. Mary Elizabeth Winstead plays his future wife Mary, who he meets on his quest.

The film, which was adapted for the big screen by Seth himself, is being produced by Tim Burton and directed by Wanted's Timur Bekmambetov.

Filming began last month and it is due out in cinemas next summer.
