Star Trek's Lieutenant Uhura and Mr Spock were always destined for romance - until William Shatner apparently insisted the script was changed.
In JJ Abrams Star Trek movie, Uhura and Spock, played by Zoe Saldana and Zacahary Quinto find love, while in the original Star Trek TV series in the 60s, Uhura hooked up with Captain Kirk, played by Shatner.
Now Nichelle Nichols, who played Uhura on the small screen, has told The Vancouver Sun she was meant to kiss Spock, played by Leonard Nimoy, but when Shatner saw them rehearsing, he insisted he wanted to be the one to kiss her.
Nichelle said: "Bill Shatner saw what was going on and he said, 'Woah, woah, woah. If anybody is gonna get to kiss Lieutenant Uhura it's gonna be me.' And he had the whole thing changed so the first interracial kiss was with Lieutenant Uhura and Captain Kirk."
She added: "Bill wanted to rehearse all the time. He said he wanted to get this right! I said to him, 'It's right, it's right. I promise you, it's right.' And the camera was shaking and the director was laughing his head off. We really had a good time."
Zoe Saldana and Zachary Quinto will return as Uhura and Spock in sequel Star Trek Into Darkness this summer.
