Simon Cowell and Cheryl's X Factor final blunder gets Northern Ireland meme treatment
An embarrassing blunder by Simon Cowell and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini at the X Factor final was given a Northern Ireland twist in a meme that was shared thousands of times.
As Louisa Johnson sang her version of the winner's song before the result of the public's vote was revealed, the two mentors were a little over zealous.
Louisa, who became the eventual winner fending off fellow contestants Reggie 'n' Bollie with more than 53% of the vote, was approaching the key change in the song when the music dramatically quietened.
But Simon and Cheryl misinterpreted this as the song ending - and the camera was on them to capture it all as they rose to their feet before quickly sitting back down.
Naturally the Internet reacted accordingly - within minutes gifs, memes and recordings of the misdemeanour were circulating around the web.
It wasn't long before Northern Ireland viewers put their own twist on it.
Some variations of the clip appeared centred around mass.
Among the most popular was one which read: "When your Protestant friends are at a Catholic mass".
