Singer announces new X-Men movie

X-Men director Bryan Singer has announced that a new movie in the franchise will be released in 2016.

The filmmaker took to Twitter to reveal the news, writing: "#Xmen #Apocalypse 2016!"

Plot details are not known but fans are speculating that the film - due out on May 27, 2016 - will be about a villain named Apocalypse, who has appeared in the X-Men comics.

The franchise's star Hugh Jackman is likely to be back as Wolverine and other X-Men alumni are also expected to be on board.

However, before Apocalypse, fans can see the new film in the series next year. X-Men: Days Of Future Past is scheduled for release on May 23, 2014.
