Singer Duffy finds a Secret Love

Duffy is tipped to star in romantic drama Secret Love

Duffy is set to star in romantic drama Secret Love.

The Welsh singer, who made her big screen debut in Marc Evans' drama Patagonia in 2010, is tipped to take the leading role of a young woman who falls in love with an older, married man.

The Grammy and Brit Award-winning pop star - whose 2008 debut album Rockferry sold more than seven million copies worldwide and featured hit singles Mercy and Warwick Avenue - will also compose original songs for the film and work on the soundtrack, reported Screen Daily.

Dewi Humphreys, who has directed episodes of My Family, Absolutely Fabulous and Mount Pleasant, will take the reins on Secret Love, which will be written by Emyr Humphreys.

The film, which aims to start shooting in the autumn, follows the bitter-sweet love story between the couple, and the woman's subsequent turmoil following his unexpected death.

Duffy, whose full name is Amie Duffy, released her second album Endlessly in 2010 and is rumoured to be starting work on her third album. Her music has appeared in films including An Education and Bride Wars.
