Smith eyeing Independence Day 2

Will Smith might be in Independence Day 2 after all, it has been reported.

The Hollywood actor starred in the original 1996 film but director Roland Emmerich recently said he would not be fighting aliens in the planned follow-up, because he is too big a name these days and it would be too costly.

But the German filmmaker has now told Digital Spy that Will is set to have a discussion about reprising his role.

He said: "I sometimes say no, Will Smith will not be in it because he didn't want to do it at first. Now we have a meeting planned, we want to talk about it again.

"So anything can happen."

Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman are expected to return for the Independence Day sequel.

Roland said it is likely to be released in 2015 or 2016.
