Smith: Gosling's very handsome

Ryan Gosling directs How To Catch A Monster

Matt Smith has admitted he was impressed with Ryan Gosling's six-pack in Crazy, Stupid, Love.

The Doctor Who star - who is filming Ryan's first film, the fantasy noir How To Catch A Monster - said he can see why the Canadian actor is such a heartthrob.

"Obviously I have admired his abdominals in Crazy, Stupid, Love. Yes, he's a very handsome man, that's for sure," he told Total Film.

Matt has been cast as Bully in the dark film, which also stars Christina Hendricks, Saoirse Ronan and Eva Mendes, and is expected to be released in 2014.

The actor explained the character is vastly different to the Time Lord, saying: "He's (Bully) the opposite of what I'm doing right now, which is really interesting. He's wired in a different way and he's from a different place."

The 30-year-old has only compliments for the first-time director, saying: "He's cool. He's bright. He's got a really clear, really brilliant vision for his film. It has a wonderful (David) Lynch-ian quality. He's operating in a very interesting filmic language."

"And I'm a huge fan of his work as an actor. I think he makes brilliant choices. I think it's important to work with people you're inspired by, and I absolutely was when I met him."

Matt, who previously appeared in In Bruges, would be open to doing more Hollywood films.

"If anyone would have me! I welcome Hollywood movies. I'd quite like to live in America," he said, adding: "I'd quite like to do a musical. That'd be fun, I think!"
