Steven Spielberg has come up with a storyline for The Goonies sequel, director Richard Donner has revealed.
A follow-up to the 1985 cult children's adventure movie, which starred Josh Brolin, Sean Astin and Corey Feldman, has long been in the works.
Now director Richard has told gossip website TMZ.com that Spielberg, who was executive producer on the original movie, written by Chris Columbus, has hit on a suitable follow-up plot.
Richard said: "Hopefully we're going to get this done, period. Spielberg came up with the idea of doing a sequel after 30 years. You don't do it without him, and he came up with another storyline and he's right on."
Asked if he thought the stars of the original movie would return for the sequel he said: " God knows, it's up to them... If they have any sense they will, if they don't, they won't!"
Josh Brolin previously revealed in 2012 he has talked to Spielberg about appearing in a sequel.
He said: "I talked to Spielberg recently about doing a sequel to it, It's been talked about though for 28 years, so I don't know if it's ever going to happen."
Lord Of The Rings star Sean Astin has also said he was sure there will one day be a sequel to the film about treasure-seeking kids.
He said: "They'll do it for sure - no question about it. I think they would like to do it with all of us, and maybe they will, but they're trying to crack the code, you know?"
