Spielberg linked to Biblical epic

Steven Spielberg could be set to make the story of Moses for the big screen

Steven Spielberg is being tipped to make a big-screen retelling of the Moses story, according to reports.

Deadline said that the Schindler's List director is close to signing the deal to direct the film, given the working title Gods And Kings.

The film is described as a "'Braveheartish version of the Moses story" mixed with the "gritty reality" of Saving Private Ryan.

"There have been glossy versions of the Moses story but this would be a real warrior story," an insider told the website.

Warner Bros first approached the filmmaker, who has just finished Lincoln and is set to make the sci-fi story Robopocalypse, last September.

Gods And Kings would begin production next year.

Meanwhile, Darren Aronofsky is working on a Noah's Ark film, while Mel Gibson is planning his own epic tale about Judah Maccabee.
