Stallone to return to Rocky role
Sylvester Stallone could reprise his Rocky Balboa role in spin-off Creed.
The action star is expected to return to play the retired fighter-turned-trainer in the continuation of the saga, with Michael B Jordan said to be in early talks to portray Apollo Creed's grandson, reported Deadline.
Ryan Coogler, who has said that Creed is his dream project, will direct the seventh instalment of the Rocky series. He will also write the script with Aaron Covington.
The story would focus on the grandson of Rocky's former boxing ring rival Apollo (played by Carl Weathers), who turns to heavyweight champion Rocky to be his mentor after deciding he wants to fight professionally
Sly, who is focusing on casting The Expendables 3, will be one of the producers on Creed, alongside Irwin Winkler and Robert Chartoff, who produced the original films.
The 67-year-old, who wrote the Rocky script, has also been busy with the stage adaptation Rocky The Musical, which premiered in Germany last November and is set to open on Broadway in 2014.
Rocky Balboa was Sly's break-out role. The Rocky film, which spawned five sequels, was nominated for 10 Oscars after its release in 1976, including two for the actor and writer, and won three awards.
