Star Trek captains unite in London

Four of the five Star Trek captains at Destination Star Trek at the ExCel Centre in London

Star Trek captains Scott Bakula, Avery Brooks, Kate Mulgrew, Sir Patrick Stewart and William Shatner have been reunited in London at the Destination Star Trek convention.

The event at London's Excel Centre at the weekend was the UK's first official Star Trek convention for more than 10 years, and the first time the five captains of the Starship Enterprise - Kirk, Picard, Janeway, Sisko and Archer - had all been under one roof outside the US.

William Shatner, the first starship captain, told the BBC: "I did a documentary called The Captains and I learnt to love every one of them.

"I would presume getting together is a problem because we live in divergent areas of the world."

The 81-year-old actor, who played Captain James T Kirk from 1966 to 1973, insisted that any rivalry between the five "has long since passed" and they are now "good friends".

Sir Patrick Stewart - Captain Jean-Luc Picard - had fans worrying, when he was late for the photocall. But he arrived in time for the question and answer session, hosted by Torchwood star John Barrowman, reuniting all five captains for the second time ever.

During the session William revealed his most embarrassing moment was: "The lady that brought out her left breast to be signed."
