Star Trek pair 'pen Flash Gordon'
Star Trek 3 writers JD Payne and Patrick McKay are apparently working on a movie version of Flash Gordon.
The comic book hero, created by Alex Raymond in the 1930s, has had several incarnations on the big and small screen, including the 1980 film starring Sam J Jones.
Newcomers Payne and McKay have worked with JJ Abrams and his production company Bad Robot before, but none of their scripts have yet been released.
The duo are currently writing the script for Star Trek 3, but according to Film Divider, they have recently put together a new take on Flash Gordon with producer Jon Davis and are now in the process of thrashing out a studio deal.
Film Divider reports their adaptation "goes right back to the original Raymond comic strips and sidesteps any association with the movie, and even the serials. The idea, I'm told, is to reclaim Flash Gordon from his current reputation in the way that Tim Burton redirected the public conception of Batman."
The Crazies' Breck Eisner was previously attached to direct a new movie reboot of Flash Gordon in the mid-2000s but the project fell by the wayside.
