Stephen Nolan to host The Wright Stuff
Monday, 7 July 2008
Stephen Nolan is set to prove he is made of the right stuff on national TV.
The motormouth BBC NI presenter will make his UK TV wide debut on The Wright Stuff.
The award winning king of banter and debate will take over the reins of the live Channel Five daytime show for one week, starting on July 28.
It will be the east Belfast man's first time presenting a national TV show.
And it was the man who brought Natasha Kaplinksy to Channel Five — senior programme controller, Chris Shaw — who has provided Stephen with his nationwide break.
It's just one of a number of offers made to him by impressed TV bosses in the UK.
Said a delighted Stephen: "I think doing The Wright Stuff for a week is a great opportunity for me to get a feel for the national audience.
"I love live TV. I can't get enough of it and it's very important to me that I constantly find live TV airtime to do what I do."
Prior to his week on The Wright Stuff, Stephen will also spend part of his five week summer break from his BBC Belfast job filling in for BBC Radio Five Live presenter, Victoria Derbyshire, on her popular weekday morning show.
Said Stephen: "The Wright Stuff is a topical programme. The week before that, I'm doing Five Live as well. So, I will get a sense of the national agenda."
However, while admitting his week fronting The Wright Stuff will test the waters of national TV, Stephen has no intention of giving up his BBC Northern Ireland work.
"The Wright Stuff is a one-off," he said.
"But I have a number of offers from different channels and I am having a look at them at the minute.
"As I have said all along, my priority is to maintain the relationship with the Radio Ulster audience, because that is very, very important to me."

Loved Stephen Nolan on The Wright Stuff. I didn't agree with all of his views, especially the bit about pupils having a right to express their individuality, but, he was very entertaining, fun and great value. Come back soon!

Stephen Nolan in today's Wright Stuff seemed to give the impression he is an unashamed anarchist. His comments relating to his self-confessed parking activities on air are disgraceful, particularly, when he further explained it was largely due to his own poor time keeping and disorganised way of life. This was further exacerbated by his nonsense on pupils expressing their 'individuality'. I switched off

You have just discussed the issue of Police Officers attending evry school in the UK. I live in spain and this is exactly what happens here and I can assure you it works. When the children leave or enter the school gates they are overseen by a Police Officer, never do you see children hanging around, smoking, fighting or causing a general nusence of themselves. The children all leave the premises in an orderly maner and also have obvious respect for the Police Oficer and parents who have come to collect them from the school

i watched Stephan Nolan on the wright stuff and i think he should b***** off back to the land of the bog asap, what a load of tripe. When i first saw him, i thought he must be Eamon Holmes brother, they are both fat irishmen who like the sound of their own voices, it could have been worse i suppose. we could have had that horrible Lowrie Turner all the week.
