Emma Stone has dropped hints about Gwen Stacy's future after The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
The actress, who will reprise her role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man's love interest in Marc Webb's sequel, sparked speculation that her character will be killed off, as she admitted that the films are quite faithful to the Marvel comics they are based on.
"I think the intention the whole time has been to tell Gwen's story as closely to the comic as possible. That's been the director's idea and the studio's idea, so we will see if that comes to fruition," she told Ryan Seacrest on his US radio show.
In the comic books, Gwen is killed by Spider-Man's nemesis, the Green Goblin (played in the reboot by Chris Cooper) when he discovers the superhero's true identity.
Emma revealed that the sequel will see Peter (played by Andrew Garfield) having some internal struggles.
"Basically they're going to see the continuation of the Spider Man story, which is the hero's journey," she said.
"And he's up against a whole new squadron of villains and he's struggling with promises he's made in the last movie and the consequences of making those and what it's like to be in love with somebody who you promised not to see any more," she added.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which will also star Jamie Foxx, Paul Giamatti and Dane DeHaan, will be released on April 18.
