Susan Boyle faces stiff competition from 10-year-old Hollie

TALKBACK THAMES-SYCO TV/ITV

Hollie Steel

Singing Scottish spinster Susan Boyle might be stealing the show so far, but a twinkle-toed 10-year-old looks set to give her stiff competition on Britain's Got Talent.

Hollie Steel, from Accrington, Lancashire, wows the judges in the next edition of the ITV1 show, screened tonight, with an all-singing all-dancing performance of I Could Have Danced All Night from the musical My Fair Lady.

At auditions in Manchester - where last year's dancing winner George Sampson was discovered - Hollie took to the floor in a lilac tutu and began her ballet routine.

Not a man to suffer little girls in lilac tutus gladly, judge Simon Cowell reached for his buzzer to dismiss her when she started singing, prompting the audience to rise to their feet and judge Amanda Holden to sing along.

After the performance, judge Piers Morgan tells Hollie: "We have seen a lot of children on our show over the last three series and I have never heard any of them sing as well as you do."

Earlier this week, Morgan wrote on his blog that the show had a "tiny young girl singer ... who will melt your heart".

This week's show also features Kelly Brook's short-lived appearance as a judge.

In January the model and presenter was axed just a week into filming when producers decided the four-judge format was over-complicated.

Hollie is a very beautiful singer with a wonderful strong voice for one so young and never hit a bum note!! However the ballet and singing don't mix, she should concentrate on her singing.

She certainly has the ability to win, but Susan Boyle irrespective of the grand result is a winner already. She is an internet star and has already done several interviews for American tv, and an interview with Oprah in the offing.

Isn't it wonderful that people who would not normally get a break are being showcased. Just having their audition televised is great platform for any future stardom! Good luck to all the truly talented!

Thats right, You DON'T want Susan Boyle to win, so you bring on the 'sympathy votes' - or is it symPATHETIC votes. Everybody LOVES a child performer - but, Hollie Steel is NO Shirely Temple

I am glad I am not the only one who is cynical..this whole scenario absolutely reeks of set-up...the plain but angel voiced adult singer...the child who also sings like an angel...the only surprise would have been if this scenario hadn't occured.

it's all so premeditated. we know that the powers that be totally decide who goes on tv & who emotes what before the general public sees it.
susan boyle is a lovely singer but the whole similary to the paul potts scenario is totally predictable.
