Tatum to get murdered by Carell?

Channing Tatum is being linked to the film Foxcatcher

Channing Tatum could be fighting for his life in the thriller Foxcatcher.

The Step Up star is said to be in talks to appear as seven-time world and Olympic wrestler Dave Schultz, who was shot by John du Pont, played by Steve Carrell, reported the Los Angeles Times' 24 Frames blog.

Based on a true story, the film - to be directed by Bennett Miller - would be a departure from the action and romantic roles Channing normally plays in movies like GI Joe, Dear John and The Eagle.

It would also show a different side to Steve, who usually stars in romantic comedies like Crazy Stupid Love, Dinner For Schmucks and Date Night.

du Pont, a paranoid schizophrenic who was heir to the chemical fortune, built a wrestling training facility where he murdered the wrestler. He was sent to prison for the crime, and died in jail last year.

Acclaimed filmmaker Bennett is known for generating Oscar buzz from his actors - Philip Seymour Hoffman won best actor for Capote, and Brad Pitt is fast gaining praise for Moneyball.

Foxcatcher is thought to be in the "talks" stage, with no comment from Channing's publicist and a producer on the film.
