Taylor Swift-ly flies to The Giver

Taylor Swift reportedly has a role in The Giver

Taylor Swift is reportedly set to star in The Giver.

The Love Story singer, who made her big-screen debut in romantic drama Valentine's Day in 2010, has been cast in an as-yet-undisclosed role alongside Meryl Streep and Jeff Bridges in the film adaptation of Lois Lowry's novel, said The Hollywood Reporter.

Brendon Thwaites is to play a young boy, who has been chosen as the Receiver of Memories, and has to work with The Giver (Jeff), an old man who teaches the boy how to use his sensory gifts.

Oscar-winning actress Meryl is on board as the antagonistic Chief Elder, who assigns the young their tasks, in the film about a society in which there is no sickness, conflict or racism, while Katie Holmes is to portray the mother of Brendon's character.

True Blood heartthrob Alexander Skarsgard, The Odd Life Of Timothy Green's Odeya Rush and Cameron Monaghan of Shameless will also have supporting roles in Phillip Noyce's version.

The Giver, which was adapted for the screen by Michael Mitnick, is scheduled to start filming on October 7 in Cape Town, South Africa, in time for a release in August 2014.

The Giver would mark the first film role for Taylor since Valentine's Day, although she made an appearance in Zooey Deschanel's TV show New Girl.

The 23-year-old, who has announced the 2014 UK dates for her Red tour, also lent her voice to the character of Audrey in The Lorax opposite Zac Efron.
