The Saint is being lined up for a big-screen remake.

RKO Pictures has commissioned a new script which could lead see the character, most famously portrayed by Roger Moore in the 1960s TV series, return in a trilogy, Variety said.

The Saint was created by Leslie Charteris and first appeared in his 1928 book Enter The Tiger.

He was the subject of several films, beginning in 1938 with The Saint In New York, and TV series, and was also portrayed by Val Kilmer in 1997.

Eagle Eye screenwriter Travis Wright is penning the script.
