Thompson, Winstone for Carlyle film

Robert Carlyle has signed up Emma Thompson and Ray Winstone to star in his directorial debut, The Legend Of Barney Thomson.

The Full Monty star will also feature in his own film as the title character, a Glaswegian barber who falls into serial killing, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

It is shooting in Glasgow and the cast includes Brian Pettifer, Tom Courtenay, Martin Compston, James Cosmo, Ashley Jensen, Kevin Guthrie and Stephen McCole.

The film is based on the novel by Douglas Lindsay, Long Midnight Of Barney Thomson, and is a joint production between Canada and the UK.

Emma is also working on action thriller Survivor with Milla Jovovich and Pierce Brosnan, and comedy A Walk In The Woods which is an adaptation of Bill Bryson's memoir.

Ray is working on a remake of the 1991 action film Point Break.

The Legend Of Barney Thomson is due to be released in 2015.
