Billy Bob Thornton has said family issues are the same, in any culture or country.
The Monster's Ball star wrote, directed and co-stars in new film Jayne Mansfield's Car, starring Robert Duvall, Kevin Bacon and John Hurt, about the culture clash when a family from England travel to meet relatives in a small town in the deep south of America.
Billy Bob said: "I've always been interested in culture clashes, that's always been interesting subject to me. And what's great about it is at the end of the day you always find out we're all kind of the same anyway, you know.
"One of things with this film is, we've all had exactly the same problems especially when they happen within families
"It doesn't matter what language it is, what country you're from, at the end of the day whatever you've repressed, your troubles, they always come out and it's like, 'Oh wow, same here!'"
Duvall said he chose the film so he could work with Billy Bob again and said he was "top of the list" as a director.
