Tom Hooper for Les Miserables?

British director Tom Hooper has won acclaim for The King's Speech

Tom Hooper is reportedly in talks to direct a big screen adaptation of Les Miserables.

The King's Speech director, who has enjoyed huge box office and award success with his film about George VI's battle to control his stammer, has been offered the chance to helm a big-budget musical version of the classic French novel and hit stage show by Working Title films, according to the LA Times.

The filmmaker is reported to have turned down the chance to direct Iron Man 3, and recently told The LA Times 24 Frames movie blog he is "on the lookout" to direct another period story.

The last film adaptation of Victor Hugo's novel about the people of 19th century France was a non-musical version which starred The King's Speech's Geoffrey Rush.

Virgo:

Read the fine print on a contract. If you're not happy with the proposed terms of a deal, renegotiate. Don't be afraid to drive a hard bargain. You may not realise it, but you have a great deal of power. People are willing to pay good money for someone with your intelligence and experience. If you undersell yourself, you will set a dangerous precedent. Someone will ask you to do something that goes against your conscience. Obey your principles, even if it means making an enemy.More
