Top artisan award for Johnny Depp
Johnny Depp is set to receive the first Distinguished Artisan award for his big-screen looks.
The Hollywood star will be presented with the gong from the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild at the industry's awards ceremony, which return after a 10-year hiatus on February 15 at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles.
The prize celebrates those whose "body of work in the film industry was richly enhanced by the consistent collaboration of make-up and hair styling artistry, creating memorable characters throughout their career", reported Variety.
"Make-up and hair artisans agree that Johnny Depp is a wonderful selection to receive our first Distinguished Artisan Award," the guild's president Susan Cabral-Ebert said.
"He, probably more than any other actor working today, uses the skills of our members to delineate his characters... A great artist himself, he allows others to shine."
Johnny's most memorable movie transformations include his portrayals of Edward Scissorhands, sweets creator Willy Wonka in Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, the Mad Hatter in Alice In Wonderland, Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates Of The Caribbean films, and Tonto as The Lone Ranger, which is up for best make-up and hairstyling at this year's Oscars.
