Trailer for second Hobbit unveiled

A trailer for The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug gives fans a sneak peek of Peter Jackson's new film

Hobbit fans have been treated to a glimpse of the next film in the franchise - The Desolation Of Smaug.

The trailer features the elves Legolas (Orlando Bloom) and Tauriel (Evangeline Lilly), wizard Gandalf (Sir Ian McKellen) and a glimpse of Smaug the dragon (Benedict Cumberbatch).

Amid battle scenes, it features Orlando, who reprises his role as Legolas from the Lord Of The Rings trilogy after not featuring in the first Hobbit film, with a bow and arrow warning: "Do not think I won't kill you dwarf."

Evangeline's character, who is also new to the Hobbit, says: "When did we allow evil to become stronger than us?"

The trailer for the film, which also stars Cate Blanchett, Luke Evans, Andy Serkis and Martin Freeman and is due to hit UK cinemas on December 13, was released online and warns "Beyond darkness, beyond desolation... the greatest danger of all".

The third instalment - The Hobbit: There And Back Again - opens in December 2014.

In April, Peter Jackson said he was due to start work editing the third Hobbit film shortly.

"A lot of that movie was shot nearly a year ago, so I'm looking forward to seeing it come alive, shot by shot in the cutting room. It's like assembling one of those complex 2000-piece jigsaw puzzles," he wrote on his Facebook page.
