Usher, Chris Brown and Eddie Murphy are some of the names being bandied around to play James Brown in a forthcoming biopic.
The big-screen version of the late King of Soul's life - to be directed by Spike Lee - has been discussed since 2006 and is still in talks, with a leading man yet to be cast, James' daughter has revealed.
Dr Yanna Brown told Artisan News: "We have talked to several people, Eddie Murphy being one of them. In a comedic role, I guess it would have to be Eddie, who would do Dad justice. Chris Brown did such a great interpretation of Night Train at the Grammy Awards, I thought he was wonderful."
Wesley Snipes had been tipped for the role, but legal troubles meant the family has had to consider other options. Yanna admitted Usher has an advantage because he knows the family personally, and had a close friendship with the musician.
"I think Usher, more so than anybody, holds near and dear to our family. My dad coined him the godson of soul. Usher is a family friend, we just love him and we are possibly thinking about him for the biopic - so you never know!" she added.
Yanna assured that the family are taking the time to plan out the best film.
"We are looking at what is going to be the best thing for Dad's brand. At the end of the day, it will be a great film," she said.
