Vincent Cassel joining Child 44

Vincent Cassel has joined the cast of political murder mystery Child 44.

The French star is replacing Philip Seymour Hoffman in director Daniel Espinosa's film, reported Deadline.

Mesrine actor Vincent, 46, is expected to get started on the 1950s Soviet-era thriller straight away as it began shooting in June.

He joins Tom Hardy, Paddy Considine, Noomi Rapace, Gary Oldman and Joel Kinnaman in the movie, which is adapted from the Tom Rob Smith best-selling novel of the same name.

Child 44 follows a disgraced member of the Soviet Union police who is investigating a series of child murders connected to high-up members of a political party.

Vincent recently split from his wife Monica Bellucci after 14 years of marriage. The pair, who met on set of French-language film L'appartement in 1996 and married in 1999, have two daughters together - eight-year-old Deva and three-year-old Leonie.
