Wahlberg 'perfect' for Ted role
Mark Wahlberg was the right fit for his Ted role, Seth MacFarlane has revealed.
The Fighter star plays John Bennett, a man who just can't grow up and remains best buddies with his teddy bear Ted (voiced by Seth).
"Mark Wahlberg was the perfect fit because he can be hysterically funny, yet he's also able to deliver genuine emotion and realism," said Seth, who also wrote, directed and produced the film.
"That loveable, gullible character he plays in Boogie Nights and I Heart Huckabees was something we saw as a jumping-off point for John: the sweet and funny guy who is susceptible to Ted's urgings."
Seth, creator of hit animations Family Guy, American Dad! and The Cleveland Show, originally conceived Ted as an animated series but soon realised the story would lend itself to the big screen.
"Ted has a lot of love and enthusiasm and a zest for life but no self-editing mechanism, so what he says is really the first thing that pops to mind," he explained.
The 38-year-old, who wore a motion capture suit off camera, so his movements as well as his voice could be used for Ted, admitted The Muppets was a big source of inspiration.
"In that world it was normal for Muppets to be walking around," he added.
:: Ted opens in cinemas on August 1, while Seth's debut album Music Is Better Than Words is released on August 20.
