Kimberley Walsh has said starring in a musical film would be her "ultimate" role.

The former Girls Aloud singer has made no secret of her love for musicals and in 2012 played Princess Fiona in the West End show Shrek The Musical.

Now that Girls Aloud have confirmed their split, Strictly Come Dancing finalist Kimberley said she would love to take more musical roles.

She said: "Musical film would be like a dream come true, that would be my ultimate.

"But I'd love to do some more West End at some point as well, I just love the theatre and I love musicals."

Kimberley, 31, was speaking at the premiere of new West End show Once, based on the film of the same name.

The story follows a blossoming romance between an Irish and a Czech musician who bond over their love of music.

Kimberley said: "This [Once] is an amazing show and the music in it is fantastic. This is definitely a show I would love to do at some point.

"I've got one of the songs from the show on my musical film album."

Kimberley announced this week that she will be releasing her autobiography in September this year.
