Walters: It's weird to play a dad

Ashley Walters said playing a dad in a film is weird

Ashley Walters has said being old enough to play a dad in his latest film All Stars was a shock.

Even though the 30-year-old rapper turned actor and director has children, he was still surprised to be seen as old enough for the part.

Ex-So Solid Crew star Ashley said: "It was weird for me to play someone's dad to be honest.

"Even though my eldest son is 13, I've never been in that position where I've felt I was old enough to play the dad."

Ashley plays Got To Dance winner Akai's dad in the comedy about a fundraising dance show for a youth centre under threat.

But he said 14-year-old Akai's dance moves have not rubbed off on him: "I wouldn't even attempt to do the things he does because watching him move it's amazing, like magic."

Ashley, who has just completed Top Boy 2 and stars in this week's episode of Doctor Who, is turning his attention to directing next.

He said: "I'm getting into directing and I've got a few things boiling and a few scripts I'm working on - I want to direct a film, hopefully within the next year.

"I've worked on a script that's going to be starring me and Noel Clarke which is a comedy about two undercover cops and I'm working on a horror movie at the moment. I've just started on the script so I'm not sure which one is going to be first."

Ashley appears in All Stars alongside Javine Hylton, Kimberley Walsh and Ashley Jensen.
