War Of The Roses sequel planned

Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner's hit film The War Of The Roses is getting a sequel after more than 20 years.

A follow up to the 1989 black comedy - which saw the pair play a couple going through a bitter split - will be produced by Permut Presentations and Grey Eagle Films, reported Deadline.

The first film was based on a novel by Warren Adler and the second film will focus on his sequel, The War Of The Roses - The Children.

It will follow the children of Michael and Kathleen's characters Oliver and Barbara Rose. Son Josh's own marriage is falling apart, and daughter Evie is a "promiscuous over-eater".

Permut said the film would "explore, with comedic irony, the underbelly of a troubled family which, in this new scenario has produced a serial adulterer, a gluttonous gourmand, the protective mother-in law and grandchildren who are deeply impacted by the generational dysfunction".

The original movie was directed by Danny DeVito.
