Denzel Washington put his youngest daughter through her paces when she told him that she wanted to follow in his footsteps by becoming an actress.
The double-Oscar winner, who has four grown-up children, said he planned to tell his daughter if she wasn't up to scratch.
Denzel, 55, said: "My youngest daughter wants to be an actress. But she's actually very good. When she was auditioning for different acting colleges, I told her, 'I want to see your audition pieces'.
"She fell on the floor and got all dramatic. I said, 'Look, I'm going to be honest with you, it's too tough a business. If you aren't good, I'm going to let you know'.
"Unfortunately for me, she was excellent. I was like, 'Oh shoot!' So she's acting away and she loves it."
Denzel is about to star as a widowed train engineer, who attempts to stop a runaway train on the very day he finds out he's being forced to take early retirement to make way for younger, cheaper engineers, in Unstoppable.
The upside of his daughter following him into Hollywood is that it's recession-proof.
"Back during the depression, musicals and comedies were the big thing because people wanted to laugh. I'm fortunately in the right business - and it's one business where you don't have to retire - you can work until you expire," he said.
