Mary Elizabeth Winstead has revealed she found it refreshing to go make-up free for her role in The Thing.

The Scott Pilgrim Vs The World actress stars as scientist Kate Lloyd in the horror movie, which is a prequel to John Carpenter's famous 1982 film.

But speaking at the film's world premiere in Los Angeles, Winstead explained her character was a far cry from the stereotypical horror movie heroine.

"I'm in a parka, completely covered, the whole movie, there's no shower scene, there's no make-up, not a shred of make-up," she laughed.

"It was really liberating for me to get to play a character who's not supposed to look pretty all the time."

She added: "I would love to play characters like that more often, because I think the less pressure we can put on women to look perfect all the time, the better."

Capricorn:

Your dry humour will be very popular. It's always difficult bringing a large group of people together. Everybody feels like they are walking on eggshells. After cracking a few jokes, you'll put the group at ease. Resist the temptation to make fun of relatives, especially the more sensitive members of the group. Nobody likes feeling singled out. Watching a light hearted comedy can also be a great way to generate a festive atmosphere. This is a time when people can put their differences aside.More
