Witherspoon ties a Devil's Knot?

Reese Witherspoon will star in a film based on the true story

Reese Witherspoon could be getting entangled in tense thriller Devil's Knot.

The Water For Elephants star is said to be in talks to star in Atom Egoyan's gripping drama about the West Memphis 3 murder controversy, based on Mara Leveritt's 2003 book, reported Deadline.

She would play Pam Hobbs, the mother of one of the murder victims who initially believes the trio killed her son, but is eventually persuaded that the three suspects are innocent.

Atom - who previously directed Chloe and The Sweet Hereafter - has apparently spent the last six weeks rewriting the script with Paul Boardman, who started writing it in 2006 with Scott Derrickson.

Filming is scheduled to begin next summer.

Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley Jr were released in August after being sent to prison for the murder of three eight-year-old boys, who were found tied up in a drainage ditch. Baldwin and Misskelley Jr served life sentences, while Echols was on death row before they were released with ten-year suspended sentences.

Reese - who received two nominations for her performance opposite Robert Pattinson in Water For Elephants - will next be seen in the middle of a love triangle between Chris Pine and Tom Hardy in action comedy This Means War.
