Elijah Wood is to star in a period movie exploring the relationship between poets John Malcolm Brinnin and Dylan Thomas.

The Hobbit actor will play Brinnin in Set Fire To The Stars, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Welsh actor Celyn Jones will portray Thomas and also co-wrote the script.

Steven Mackintosh, Kelly Reilly and Shirley Henderson have also been cast in the film, which starts shooting later this month.

Downton Abbey director Andy Goddard will take the reins on the film, which he wrote with Celyn.

Brinnin was a North American poet who was instrumental in introducing Thomas to American readers in the 1950s.
