Shailene Woodley has signed up to star in upcoming indie film White Bird.

The actress, who gave an acclaimed performance as George Clooney's daughter in The Descendants, will take the lead role in the film from writer-director Gregg Araki, Variety reports.

Shailene, 20, will play a troubled young woman whose life is turned upside down after her mother goes missing.

The Golden Globe-nominated star will next appear in comedy drama The Spectacular Now, also starring Brie Larson.
